Synopsis :

In this family, everyone is keeping secrets--especially the dead. Brecken Hill in upstate New York is an expensive place to live. You have to be rich to have a house there. And they don't come much richer than Fred and Sheila Merton. But even all their money can't protect them when a killer comes to call. The Mertons are brutally murdered the night after an Easter Dinner with their three adult kids. Who, of course, are devastated.

Or are they? They each stand to inherit millions. They were never a happy family, thanks to their capricious father and neglectful mother, but perhaps one of them is more disturbed than anyone knew. Did one of them snap after that dreadful evening? Or was it someone else that night who crept in with the worst of intentions? It must be. After all, if one of your siblings was a psychopath, you'd know.

Wouldn't you?

MY RATING : ⭐⭐⭐⭐

REVIEW

Every family has secrets? Right? The Mertons gather together for their festive Easter dinner, only the Mertons are dysfunctional , and not in the good way. Only person enjoying this dinner is Fred Merton, dad and head of the family, who enjoys bullying his family and seeing them turn on each other.

So, the next morning , when Fred and his wife Shelia have been found murdered in their own home, their 3 kids aren’t entirely shocked.

So, who did it ? All 3 kids have reason to have their father gone. Does the housekeeper , Irene, who found them know who did it? After all, she did clean the murder weapon, washing away all traces of evidence.

Or could it have been malicious aunt, Fred’s sister , who knows Fred’s secrets and is set to receive his wealth?

Dun, dun, dunnnnn…..

I sped through this book. I had to know more and more. The chapters are short which makes it captivating and fast paced. Each chapter jumps to different POV of everyone involved and I love that sort of pace, cuz I feel like I get a clearer picture. This is my 3rd Shari Lapena book, and like the others, has left me at the edge of my seat every time. This mystery is definitely a hit in my book.
